Nature of the single consciousness field

I have a clear and distinct mental image of this field, which came to me during meditation a couple of yeas ago.
The difficulty is explaining this emotional knowledge that comes to us; and describing it to others.

I like to imagine clear, still and pure water, being the field in its perfect state. Emotions give rise to changes in density within the field, like ripples on the pond. These subtle changes in density result in the illusion of self, the densities actually start becoming self aware and distinct from the field as a whole.

This illusion of detachment from the whole, is what we have been experiencing, as people, in modern society for far too long.
